Biography:
Lenzman is a DJ and producer who exhibits tremendous talent in the many peripheral footholds of Drum & Bass. The course his career has taken in the last few years is an enviable journey many only strive to achieve. As testament to a dynamic musical upbringing, Lenzman’s style and sound has coalesced from his early involvement with a Hiphop collective, an ongoing love affair with Soul music, and ha
ving witnessed the life and demise of London’s Blue Note club.

Real name Teije van Vliet, the producer hailing from Leiden in the Netherlands has known few limits in the recent years. Following in the indelible footsteps of true veterans such as LTJ Bukem and Calibre, it was Lenzman’s affection for the soulful side of Drum & Bass that earned him recognition in all the right places. Early successes in smaller, niche circles quickly snowballed, soon outshone by his increasing association with Goldie’s seminal Metalheadz label.

Undoubtedly one of the most captivating aspects of Lenzman’s work is his experimental sound palette. Its grace and elegance is sought not solely through tender emotion and heartfelt melody, but the raw and bracing energy that it belies. This hybrid, eclectic style has secured Lenzman a position as one of the most in demand and dynamic Drum & Bass artists within the scene.

2010 was a poignant year for Lenzman as he released ‘Open Page’ with singer-songwriter Laura Pacheco, widely known as Riya, his vigour and potential becoming widely acknowledged within the wider Drum & Bass community. Soon one of the most accomplished forerunners in liquid soul, he continued to garner respect from fellow producers and well-known imprints such as Marcus Intalex’s Soul:R, Kasra’s Critical Music and Friction’s Shogun Audio, snapping up countless headline performances in clubs and festival stages across Europe and beyond.

Lenzman’s creativity with real vocalists – the aforementioned Riya and Jo-S to name but two – has also played a key role in setting him apart from innumerable drum and bass producers settling for hastily chosen samples. Alongside this is his Midas touch for providing unforgettable remixes, ranging from a tender rework of Die & Interface’s ‘Bright Lights’ and the more recent remix of Natalie Duncan’s ‘Sky Is Falling’.

This year is shaping up to be Lenzman’s biggest yet. Not only is he collaborating with DRS on the Manchester born-and-bred MC’s forthcoming album, whilst juggling a busy DJing schedule, he is readying his own debut full-length LP. Titled ‘Looking At The Stars’, the album is to be released on Metalheadz towards the end of the year.
